U.S. Invitational and State Games
State against state — invited athletes competing for team and individual honors.
Overview
The U.S. Invitational and State Games bring together invited athletes representing their home states for a multi-event team competition across forms, weapons, and sparring.
Individual medals count toward a running state team standing, with the overall state championship trophy awarded at the close of the festival.
Divisions & Format
Athletes compete in individual events by age and rank; points accumulate toward state team totals across the weekend.
Traditional Forms
Style-appropriate kata and poomsae judged by a certified panel.
Traditional Weapons
Classical weapons forms across bo, sai, kama, and sword.
Point Sparring
Continuous-scoring point matches by age, rank, and weight.
Creative & Extreme
Open forms and weapons with modern athletic elements.
Team Events
Synchronized team forms and team sparring for state squads.
State Team Standings
Cumulative point race for the overall state championship.
Additional Divisions You’re Eligible For:
Rules & Judging
- Competitors must be invited or qualified through a recognized state qualifying event.
- Athletes represent one state only and must compete in the state's registered uniform or patch.
- Forms are scored on technique, power, balance, focus, and difficulty; high and low scores may be dropped.
- Point sparring uses light-to-moderate controlled contact with mandatory hand, foot, head, and mouth protection.
- Team point totals are posted daily; scoring disputes must be filed with the scorekeeper within 30 minutes.
- Ring officials' and head judges' decisions are final.
